Southwest Corridor Park Action Plan

The Southwest Corridor Park (SWCP) is a four-mile greenway stretching from Back Bay Station to Forest Hills Station, running alongside and over the MBTA Orange Line through several Boston neighborhoods, including Back Bay, South End, Roxbury, Fenway, Mission Hill, and Jamaica Plain. The 52-acre park connects eight transit stations and offers a wide range of amenities, from community gardens and playgrounds to athletic courts, a skate park, and open space.

Opened between 1987 and 1990, the SWCP is an iconic civic landscape born from citizen activism that halted a proposed highway and replaced it with an award-winning transit and park system serving diverse communities and uses.

More than 30 years later, the park is ready for renewed investment. Surrounding neighborhoods have grown and changed, recreational and mobility needs have evolved, and climate resilience and equity are now central considerations. While some areas function well, others face deferred maintenance and outdated infrastructure.

This Action Plan proposes a comprehensive, inclusive master planning process to guide short- and long-term improvements that modernize the park and strengthen the communities it serves.
