Bulfinch Hall has served as a dining hall, a gymnasium and now the home of the English Department at Phillips Andover Academy. In conjunction with new classroom addition, a new landscape approach has been undertaken that honors the historic landscape while adding new contemporary features that have a very light impact on the environment.

A green roof on the addition prevents an increase of the heat island effect and absorbs stormwater. Large areas of turfgrass have been converted to native meadow. An outdoor classroom is an exterior abstraction of a Harkness Table to allow classes to utilize the site in good weather.
