At Hammonasset State Park, KZLA developed a site design approach that re-defines the site circulation, locates a new bathhouse outside of the coastal flooding and velocity zones, restores native vegetation and dunes, and locates a multi-use trail to connect park facilities. The new bathhouse has been located several hundred feet back from the Long Island Sound and elevated nearly eight feet above existing grade to allow flooding from storms and anticipated sea level rise without damage to the facilities. The 1000 car parking lot has been re-configured with large rain gardens to manage stormwater and decrease the mass of pavement.
